Pain around the shoulder blades from desk work usually comes from sitting in the same position for a long time, slouching, or a badly placed computer. The muscles of the neck, shoulders and upper back become tight and tired.
Common symptoms
- Tight, aching shoulder blades
- Tired shoulders
- Pain spreading up into the neck
Prevention
- Sit up straight
- Take a stretch break every 30–60 minutes
- Stretch your neck, shoulders and back regularly to ease tension and prevent long-term pain
Move slowly and stay within a pain-free range. Stop and see a doctor if pain gets worse or you feel numbness or pain that spreads.
