Focused Shockwave

Focused shockwave therapy

High-energy sound waves gathered into a single focal point, so the position and depth of the energy can be set. Suited to muscle and bone problems.

Does this sound like you?

  • Heel pain with your first steps in the morning (plantar fasciitis)
  • A frozen shoulder that won't lift fully, or painful tendons around the shoulder
  • Elbow pain where the tendons attach, or tendinitis from sport
  • Pain that has lasted for months despite other treatments

If it does, let our doctor assess you before treatment starts.

What is focused shockwave?

Focused shockwave therapy uses mechanical sound waves to deliver energy to the target tissue. The position and depth of the energy can be set according to the device and the treatment. It suits disorders of the muscles and bones.

The waves

High-energy sound waves gathered into a single focal point.

How is radial shockwave different from focused shockwave?

Radial and focused shockwave are both shockwave technologies, but they deliver energy differently. Radial shockwave spreads energy from the applicator into the surrounding tissue, which suits areas that can be reached through the skin, within the device’s indications. Focused shockwave can gather its energy at a set position and depth.

During treatment

It can feel uncomfortable while the waves are applied. The intensity is adjusted to what you can tolerate, and the number of sessions depends on your doctor’s assessment.

Your actual plan depends on the doctor’s assessment.
